- The San Francisco label will also reissue Crash Course In Science's "Jump Over Barrels" in January.
Dark Entries will release an album from Texas producer Bill Converse along with an EP from minimal synth group Crash Course In Science on January 19th.
Bill Converse hails from Lansing, Michigan, but relocated to Texas in 1998 and has since built a cult following as a producer and DJ. (A couple weeks ago, Converse took the reins for a well-received L.I.E.S. podcast.) The songs on Meditations/Industry were recorded live to tape with no overdubs between 2012 and 2013. Originally released as a cassette, Dark Entries says the album draws influence from "the desert and places of industry, like power stations, old factories and warehouses."
Crash Course In Science is an obscure Philadelphia band originally active between 1979 and 1981 that has come to underground acclaim via a round of reissues which began to surface in the late '00s. The song "Jump Over Barrels," a secret weapon for DJs like Carlos Souffront and Caribou, was recorded in 1981 and never released on wax except as part of a sprawling, out-of-print boxset released by Vinyl-On-Demand in 2009. For the Dark Entries EP, "Jump Over Barrels" appears in its original form alongside a remix from Charles Manier (AKA JTC) and demo and rehearsal versions.
