- The compilation will see release on Perseo, a sub-label of Italians Do It Better.
Italians Do It Better duo Johnny Jewel and Mike Simonetti are ready to release a new mix CD called Albuterol.
According to IDIB's homepage, the compilation was born out of a weekend Simonetti spent with Jewel in Portland, Oregon, having fatefully forgotten his asthma medication back in Jersey. He came to DJ a Glass Candy party alongside Jewel, and by the time he was done with the party and the two after parties that followed, Simonetti's allergies were in pretty bad shape. From there, he spent several days sleeping on a series of friends' couches, all of whom had cats that made his condition increasingly unbearable. "Then it occurs to us," says Jewel, "there's no cats at the studio, so we spend two days & nights listening to crates of killer cuts from Mike's library in New Jersey. Starting with around 80 songs and slowly narrowing it down to 10 traxxx that really complemented each other."
The result was Albuterol, a heavy, pitched-down affair that's fittingly named after the medication Simonetti had left at home. The mix was originally posted online for free, and once it had received over 20,000 downloads, the label decided to put it out officially. It will see release on CD next week via Perseo, a new sub label of Italians Do It Better.
