- The Frankfurt selector is next in line for his own club's mix series.
Live at Robert Johnson Volume 7 is compiled by club co-founder Athanassios Macias, better known as Ata.
Though he hasn't got a single 12-inch to his name, Ata carries serious weight in Germany's house and techno scene. This is due in part to the three labels he set up in the '90s with Heiko M/S/O: Klang Elektronik, Ongaku Music and, perhaps most notably, Playhouse. It also stems from his long term involvement with Robert Johnson, the Frankfurt club he co-founded and where he's long been a resident DJ. In this sense, Ata's role has always been that of the curator rather than the artist—a trend that continues on Live at Robert Johnson Volume 7. The mix is done with a very hands-off style approach, with each record playing out pretty much in its entirety. No current dance tracks are included: all selections are old, mostly rare and often Italo-flavored favorites from Ata's collection. The label says the mix is designed "like a good old cassette tape for friends and lovers," which just about nails it.
Ata's mix will be the second to last installment in the Live at Robert Johnson series. The final edition, mixed by Dixon, is due out later this year.
