- The man behind 10 Ragas to a Disco Beat will play on the continent for the first time in November.
Charanjit Singh will play his first European shows this November in Copenhagen and Sweden.
The Indian producer made waves two years ago with the reissue of his album Synthesizing: 10 Ragas To A Disco Beat, a collection of Indian ragas he recorded with drum machines and synthesizers back in 1982. The LP's re-release earned him attention among house and techno connoisseurs for its apparently accidental similarity to the dance music genres that would emerge in Chicago and Detroit just a few years later. Though he's been a regular performer in India for decades, the upcoming dates will be his first ever in Europe.
Singh will play live at both of the shows, armed with a Roland 303, 808, and Jupiter-8 synth. He's billed with Das Racist member Heems, a producer and MC whose own music blends hip-hop with Bollywood. The duo have recently recorded a collaborative EP, parts of which they'll be performing live together at these concerts. The first will take place at Copenhagen's Teater Grob on November 6 during the city's CPH:DOX multimedia festival. The next evening they'll head to Malmö, Sweden for a show at Mitt Möllan.
