- Garifuna Variations, the French producer's debut LP, will come out next month.
Low Jack will release his debut album, Garifuna Variations, via Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. label on February 18th.
The music on the record was originally commissioned for a live performance by Paris's Quai Branly Museum, which displays collections of indigenous art from across the world. The French producer was given the keys to the museum's sound library as part of the project. "In his research he focused on the Garifuna people of Honduras," a press release explains, "sampling parts of the music and composing a live set with some of these elements, with no intention to release this performance." At the request of Morelli, Low Jack later returned to the studio to recreate the performance for official release.
Garifuna Variations is Low Jack's most comprehensive artistic statement to date, following three EPs split between French labels Get The Curse and In Paradisum, and the Free Pyjamas 12-inch for Delsin. It's the latest in a growing list of conceptual LPs to appear on Ron Morelli's label, including Jahiliyya Fields's Unicursal Hexagram, Jorge Velez's Cult Of Assassins-inspired Hassan and KWC 92's Dream Of The Walled City, a soundtrack to a non-existent film about Kowloon's Walled City.
