- The experimental artist's next full-length is a "fatal homage to minimalism."
Thomas Brinkmann has a new album coming out on Editions Mego called A 1000 Keys.
This LP is cut from the same cloth as 2015's What You Hear (Is What You Hear), a challenging album that saw Brinkmann attempt to distance himself from "descriptive musical terms that oppress creative output." This time round, Editions Mego say he's created a "fatal homage to minimalism" that presents a "harsh meditation on the expressive qualities of digital sound production." The label adds: "In translating the timbre of a grande piano into binary codes, thus rebuilding its corpus with zeroes and ones, Brinkmann subverts the sensual qualities of this proto-romantic instrument in a sardonic way." The tracklist is made up of three-letter codes for various international airports—"LHR," "JFK" and so on.
Listen to album tracks "CGN" and "KIX."
