- The Vancouver artist is back on his usual home, Kranky, this November.
Scott Morgan's long-running Loscil project will release an LP called Monument Builders on Kranky November 7th.
For some time, Morgan's ambient-leaning work has addressed various aspects of his home city, Vancouver. This album also grapples with place, the label says, in both a broad and narrow sense. Monument Builders culls recordings Morgan took from around his century-old house, integrating samples of "boiling kettles and resonant moving air." Morgan, who has explored man's impact on the environment with tracks like Sea Island's "Iona," was also inspired by Edward Burtynsky’s aerial photographs documenting pollution and environmental destruction. "With Burtynsky," Morgan says, "I was struck by the fact that something so strikingly beautiful could be the result of large-scale waste and exploitation."
Last year, RA's Andrew Ryce spoke with Loscil at home in Vancouver. Check out the career-spanning profile here.
