- Detroit's long-running electronic music festival takes over the Motor City this weekend.
- Movement returns to Hart Plaza this weekend. The annual Memorial Day weekend marathon is a necessary pilgrimage for fans of Detroit music and those looking to get a grip on the bubbling US underground. Resident Advisor's Underground Stage hews close to this theme over its three days of programming, with mainstays from Detroit (Interdimensional Transmissions, DJ Stingray, Mike Huckaby, Mark Flash), Chicago (Eris Drew) and NYC (Anthony Parasole, Aurora Halal, Antenes) throwing down alongside European heads like Marco Shuttle and Helena Hauff. Outside of the underground stage, a typically diverse offering unfurls across Hart Plaza. Pioneers Phuture and Inner City will perform live, joined by the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Seth Troxler, Beautiful Swimmers, Avalon Emerson, Laurent Garnier, Tiga and Diplo, to name a few. The teeming afterparty scene, too, emphasizes Detroit music while casting a broad view on robust American scenes. Theo Parrish's Music Gallery, Soul Skate, Deep Detroit and No Way Back are long-standing homegrown traditions. Elsewhere, FIT Siegel hosts an array of local weirdos at his 2 A.D. party at Menjos, Dirty Epic's Anthology event includes a strong Detroit contingent—Juan Atkins, Scan 7 and Terrence Parker—and The Summit brings beatdown specialists Rick Wilhite and Big Strick at Motor City Wine. Tresor draws meaningful connections between Berlin and the Motor City at Tresor.313, part of a huge weekend at Tangent Gallery. El Club is also firing on all cylinders over the marathon weekend, hosting Wolf Eyes' Trip Metal Festival as well as a Discwoman showcase. Some top US gay parties combine forces for Club Toilet, featuring The Bunker New York's Justin Cudmore, Honey Soundystem's Jason Kendig and In Training's Kiernan Laveaux, among others. Lot Mass, meanwhile, sees the Pittsburgh institution roping in everyone from Titonton Duvante to Resom for an extra innings day party. Of course, there's no shortage of star-studded lineups, from Nina Kraviz and Marcel Dettmann at the Official Movement Afterparty, to Danny Daze and Lena Willikens at Texture, to Omar-S, Move D, Tama Sumo and Sadar Bahar at Where Are My Keys Monday morning.
