  • Beatport is moving into the cryptocurrency sector. The dance music digital retailer announced today that it would start accepting payments in Bitcoin starting this June, in collaboration with the Hong Kong-based marketplace Crypto.com. Beatport will be the first major online music retailer to allow purchases with cryptocurrency. In addition, Beatport is releasing a new audiovisual NFT compilation this Friday, April 23rd, called Music For Future Dance Floors. Among those featured are Sasha, Boys Noize, Charlotte de Witte, Pan-Pot, Sama' Abdulhadi and others, with visual art from Bonobo collaborator Leif Podhajsky. The compilation will come in the form of what Beatport calls "mini-drops" priced at $303 each, followed by an auction for the full compilation that comes with a bonus track as well as passes to shows by the involved artists. The full auction will be in an edition of ten. Beatport has also pledged to donate part of the proceeds to charity, including to carbon offsetting. You can find the drop for Music For Future Dancefloors here. "For Beatport, this is just the beginning of our exploration into the metaverse," says CEO Robb McDaniels, "and we are committed to the long-term opportunities this revolutionary technology portends."
