- The event on Monday, September 27th will explore how Black people's experience in the music industry has changed since last year's Blackout Tuesday on social media.
The Black Music Coalition is hosting an event in The Elgar Room at Royal Albert Hall on Monday, September 27th.
Starting at 5:30 PM in partnership with The Future Is, the free evening of panel discussions will follow a theme: "Past, Present + Future - The Black Experience in UK Music." Panelists announced so far include rapper Wretch 32, Zeon Richards (Pollen) and Whitney Boateng (WME).
The discussion will explore several questions: whether or not things have changed for Black people in the industry since 2020's Blackout Tuesday on social media; how any changes are being implemented and who they benefit; and how the industry is ensuring positive changes will have longevity and the possibility to evolve when required. The evening will also include live performances and a Q&A.
Ahead of Monday, The Black Music Coalition is streaming two panel discussions on their YouTube channel at 1 PM today, September 24th. Panelists include Jordan Hallpike (Ibiza Rocks, Merky Festival) and TikTok's Lola Oyewole.
Launched in June 2020, The Black Music Coalition is a Black-led organisation dedicated to eradicating racial inequality within the UK music industry. Find out more via their website.
Tickets to Monday's event are available via Royal Albert Hall.
