- Out October 28th, the mix pays tribute to the present and future of Motor City music.
Theo Parrish has mixed the latest DJ-Kicks, out next month.
Spanning 19 tracks, DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward pays tribute to the present and future of Motor City music, featuring De'Sean Jones, Raj Mahal, Monica Blaire, Deon Jamar and more. 18 of the tracks were signed exclusively. The other one, "Real Deal" by Parrish & Duminie DePorres, landed earlier this year.
"Detroit creates," said Parrish. "But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight. In the Great Lakes there's always more under the surface—more than what appears to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about those that defy tradition? Those that sidestep the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy."
DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward will come out via legendary Berlin label !K7 on October 28th. It follows recent mixes by Cinthie, Jessy Lanza and Jayda G. Revisit our 2021 feature reflecting on the enduring legacy of the series.
