There will be parties in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and beyond on June 18th.
Washington, DC label and collective Black Techno Matters is throwing a huge Juneteenth celebration this year.
Entitled Liber8 US, the party series will hit seven cities simultaneously on Sunday, June 18th, to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans on June 19th, 1865.
The chosen cities are Washington, DC (The Owl Room), San Francisco (Monument SF), Los Angeles (General Lee's Cocktail House), Richmond (The Jungle Room), Pittsburgh (Cobra Lounge), New York (Bossa Nova Civic Club) and Detroit (Spot Lite Detroit).
Liber8 US will feature performances from more than 40 Black artists, including bastiengoat, Suzi Analogue, MADNESS OF (AKA KYRUH & WTCHCRFT), Clark Price, Blackmoonchild, DAIYAH (who will go back-to-back with Stukes), absentwav and Phacade.
"We hope Liber8 US will be a statement to the music community and the world that Black techno matters and to show what's possible when Black artists organise together," the collective said.
Founded in 2019 by multidisciplinary artist Bernard Farley, AKA B_X_R_N_X_R_D, Black Techno Matters is about "creating spaces, both virtual and IRL, that celebrate the Black roots of techno." The label arm has put out music from the likes of Smoke & Tea, Gladstone Deluxe and Blvksite.
