Venue-stricken Barcelona gets a new club this month. Row14 opens on April 30.
Barcelona's nightlife has long been crippled by the city's conservative government with officials forcing many clubs to shut as early as 5 a.m., not to mention clamping down on the city's free open air parties on the beaches and in other public spaces.
Row14, the brainchild of the organisation behind the Monegros Desert Festival, might just revive the city's struggling house and techno scenes. Okay, well maybe just techno. The new club is located in a more industrial part of town 12.6 kilometres from the city centre past the Barcelona Airport, which should put it well out of reach of the ears of grumpy old Catalonian grandmas. The complex consists of the 800-capacity Row Club with a retractable ceiling which can be opened or closed, the 250-capacity Row Bar, plus two open-air terrace areas with 1000-capacity and a restaurant.
The club is still currently under construction but is due to open on Saturday, April 30, 2008 with Laurent Garnier headlining the Row Club and d'n'b star Shy FX in the Row Bar. Line-ups for May have already been announced with Joris Voorn, Mark Broom, Mathias Schaffhauser, Donnacha Costello, Daso some of the first to play.
