Dutch talent 2562 marries techno and dubstep on his new artist album, Aerial, which drops next month on Tectonic.
2562, aka Dave Huismans, is one of a number of new producers marrying Benga-style rhythms with Basic Channel soundscapes. He takes his name from the district code of his hometown in The Hague, but the influences are from further afield: Detroit, Kingston, Croydon, Berlin. “I didn't want to jump someone else's train, but I figured if I bring my own musical background and preferences into play, I would come up with different music anyway,” explains 2562. “That's what I usually do really; absorb and process elements from all kinds of music I love and fuse them into something I feel comfortable calling my own.”
Aerial includes two tracks from previous 2562 12-inches Channel Two and Kameleon, as well as both sides of ‘Techno Dread/Enforcers’ which arrived on Tectonic last month. But don’t just expect a singles compilation: as Pinch’s Underwater Dancehall and Cyrus’ From the Shadows have proved, Tectonic dubstep is perfectly capable of making the leap to the long-playing format.
