- For his debut on Boomkat Editions, Happa turns to abrasive hybrids of techno, industrial and noise for a release that couldn't be further from the single he put out on Church last year. At nearly six minutes, "13.05.13" is about three minutes longer than it ought to be and sounds very much like a Karenn offcut—there's that noisy rasp, a kick drum that smacks you in the chest and big, gritty synths.
"Stirring" is stronger, bringing detuned piano into the mix, but "Walice Earl" feels as though it's aping Demdike Stare. "Put Your Suitcase Down" is Happa aiming for the hypnagogic atmospheres of Lee Gamble's Diversions '94-'96 or The Caretaker, an attempt at elegiac post-rave sounds that's realised as a bunch of chords floating in a formless cloud. Two And Two Make Five is a step forward from Happa's debut, but where that single was UK-bass-by-numbers, this one sounds as though it's been spat out of a noise-techno generator.
