Iori - Lapis EP

  • Iori's third release on Prologue, and his first physical, is coal black-submerged washes of techno that don't do much on the time axis, but don't need to. There are no clever fills on the drums, nothing dropping in and out. It's just layers piled on top of layers piled on top of layers until it's all fossilised from the pressure. The first track here goes for force through a weighty undercurrent, eventually receding in one long, drawn out progression. The second has harsher clicks on the percussion's transients, and a swirling midrange klaxon. It's less devastating, but more suggestive. The digital-only third track might be said to be the most accessible. But that's relatively speaking: It's still wrapped in smoky claustrophobia, even if the bass does drop like a demolition ball. Soft and cutting at the same time, it's business as usual from Prologue.
